What is the Peer Jury Program?

Peer Jury is a second chance program for juveniles who commit non-violent criminal offenses. Successful completion of Peer Jury prevents the juvenile from having a criminal record. Offenders must admit their wrong doing and appear before a jury of their peers to be held accountable for their actions.

Members of the Peer Jury listen to the case and then impose sanctions based on individual qualities of the offender that will allow the offender to repair the harm caused to all victims, build on individual competencies, and make for a safer community.

MISSION STATEMENT

To provide a second chance to juvenile offenders through "Youth on Youth" justice. Offenders will repair the harm caused to the victim and increase personal competencies, making our community a safer place to live.

TRAINING

Peer Jury members will receive training on the Justice System, Criminal Law, Principles of Restorative Justice, Peer Jury Duties, Deliberation Skills, Active-Listening, and Mentoring.
