14 Venues this month!
DIXON – Creatively exercise your eyes, ears, and body!  September sets off with sizzling dance moves and sound grooves for Second Saturday's seventh monthly Art Happenings, Saturday, September 11, 6 – 8 p.m. at locations between 1st and 3rd Streets and Peoria and Galena Avenues.  Artists display an array of creative acts from the Latin rhythms of Zumba dancercise to the technology age of computer manipulated photography.

Kick off your Second Saturday experience up on Third Street, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church where in addition to the historic church being open you can wander down the steps and see a new photography exhibition by Hope Greene in the lower gallery.  Hope's managed to put up a new show in between giving birth to the latest addition to the Greene family, daughter, Miriam.

Zumba!
Just around the corner and down the street, Pam Arthurs-Fenwick will provide a 'Zumba' demonstration twice hourly (on the hour and half-hour) at Green River Adventure Sports.  Zumba fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program.  Pam is a certified Zumba instructor and conducts regularly scheduled classes at Sterling/Rock Falls YMCA.  In the past years, the Zumba has become nothing short of a revolution, spreading like wildfire, and positioning itself as the single most influential movement in the industry of fitness. The routines feature interval training sessions, in which fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body. Attendees are welcome to watch or participate. Pace yourself, however, for this month there are twelve different venues, some of which are running extended hours to allow you to get around to see it all.

Once you wiggle your way through a Zumba step or two, pop into Cimino's for paintings by Emily Garcia.  After, turn the corner onto First Street and prepare to be innudated with a plethora of open venues featuring music, art, more music, and more art.  Did we mention more art and music? First Street Pub's first entre into Second Saturdays features local band "Fractured" running an extra hour (6-9pm).  Right across the street, The Crystal Cork has paper sculpture and pastel art and music by John McLaughlin.  Back over, the Snow White Bakery is back with art by Charlie Kery and music by Hannah Jobus. Right next door, Waterfront gifts hosts Grand DeTour artists, Bob and Judy Milano owners of Stone Wood Kreative featuring, sculpture, pottery, and wood carvings. A couple of doors down, leave the chisels at the door,  and hold on to your art caps and hair extensions.  Check out the new art at JSalon.  There, Heather Shore will show  off her photography and give you a demonstration on how computers can be used to manipulate photographic imagery. If you don't remember Heather, she was the gal up on the scaffolding back in May putting the final touches on the Fire Station mural.  An artist of many talents, Heather spends her time focusing on family, art, teaching, and running.

We're not done yet on First Street, further down catch the amazing sounds of Robbie LeBlanc at Books on First (7-9pm), and European Art Glass at Trein's.  Cross the Hennepin Ave construction to find yourself on the other side where you'll be greeted by tasty treats and photography at Baker's Street Café.  Right next door find fingers tickling ivories as Chuck Hilliard provides piano music at The Next Picture Show, along with two ongoing shows running in the Main and Lower galleries.  A quick jaunt over to Living Well Church in the Mini Mall for you're evening dose of Karaoke.  One last loop and you'll be at your final destination, The Post House Ball Room where you can find art by Ken Reif and music by Ken Reif and James Parks.  This venue runs until midnight, allowing for a complete venture through Second Saturdays without missing a beat, or treat.

Find all the venues by picking up a Mini Map at any participating venue to make the trek or go online at www.second-saturdays.com and download your own map detailing all of the happenings for September Second Saturdays.
