The Spin Doctors to Headline Petunia Festival

The Spin Doctors first burst onto the scene in 1991 with the album Pocket Full of Kryptonite, which would eventually go triple platinum and breached the Top Five among Billboard Pop Albums while spinning off two major hit singles:  :Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" and THe No.1 Rock radio song of 1993, "Two Princes".  Ultimately, Pocket Full of Kryptonite sold over five million copies in the US and another five million overseas.  Recently, The Spin Doctors announced the upcoming release of their latest album "If The River Was Whiskey".  According to their website, it is the blues album the band was always meant to make and their confidence shows, as they give the songs lots of room to breathe and let the tracks come alive via the road-tested musiciamship of Chris barron (vocals), Aaron Comess (drums), Eric Schenkman (guitar) and Mark White (bass).  With no overdubs, irreverent lyrics, soulful drums and guitar licks that are on the fire, 'If The River Was Whiskey' captures lightning in a botlte and further cements Spin Doctors' reutation as a live act to be reckoned with.  Listen the streaming samples, here:  http://soundcloud.com/spin-doctors/sets/if-the-river-was-whiskey-album"

The Spin Doctors are set to play at the Petunia Fesitval on Saturday, July 6th from 930p-1130pm.

Information Regarding Sex Offenders at Petunia Festival

Every year the Dixon Police Department fields a number of questions from the public and from sex offenders asking specifically where they can and can't be in regards to the annual Petunia Festival carnival.

Because the carnival is on Park District property, there are two statutes that govern this. (720 ILCS 5/11-9.3(a-10)) identifies places where a convicted child sex offender can not be. As is listed below, there is an exception to this if the offender is in the park with their child.

(720 ILCS 5/11-9.3)
Sec. 11-9.3. Presence within school zone by child sex offenders prohibited; approaching, contacting, residing with, or communicating with a child within certain places by child sex offenders prohibited.

(a-10) It is unlawful for a child sex offender to knowingly be present in any public park building or on real property comprising any public park when persons under the age of 18 are present in the building or on the grounds and to approach, contact, or communicate with a child under 18 years of age, unless the offender is a parent or guardian of a person under 18 years of age present in the building or on the grounds.

The second statute is (720 ILCS 5/11-9.4-1(b)) which states that sexual predators and child sex offenders are prohibited from being in a park. These two statutes make some conflicting statements with one another and after consultation with Lee County State's Attorney Anna Sacco-Miller, someone classified as a child sex offender can be at the park, if their child is with them. If their child is not with them they can not be there and would be subject to arrest. Someone classified as a sexual predator can not be at the park at all and will be subject to arrest. There are also adult sex offenders and there are no restrictions on where they can be.

(720 ILCS 5/11-9.4-1)
Sec. 11-9.4-1. Sexual predator and child sex offender; presence or loitering in or near public parks prohibited.

b) It is unlawful for a sexual predator or a child sex offender to knowingly be present in any public park building or on real property comprising any public park.

Welcome

Welcome to Dixon Illinois.

Located along the scenic Rock River in northwestern Illinois, Dixon is a thriving community of 16,000, and serves as the county seat of Lee County. At the hub of four major highways and one interstate, Dixon is the economic center of the county and an important focus for agriculture, industry, service, retail, recreation and residential growth.

Dixon’s history dates back to 1828 when Joseph Ogee settled at the site of what is now known as Dixon. Two years later, “Father” John Dixon came to the area, purchased Ogee’s land claims and continued the establishment of a settlement by operating a ferry across the beautiful Rock River.

In 1832, a young Abraham Lincoln marched up the Rock River Valley at the head of the Sangamon County Volunteers. He and his troops were mustered in at Fort Dixon to fight in the Blackhawk Indian Wars. Fort Dixon was located on the north bank of the Rock River, and the spot is now marked with a bronze statue of Lincoln.

It is hard to think of Dixon without associating the name of her most famous son, Ronald Wilson Reagan. The former President is wellknown for calling Dixon his hometown, and he spent his formative years in Dixon attending its schools and spending summers as a lifeguard at the Lowell Park Beach. Dixon was instrumental in forming the character of our 40th President.
