Sprinkler System Saves Complex |
On January 15, 2010 at 10:58 p.m, the Dixon City Fire Department was dispatched to 1501 Lowell Park Road for an automatic fire alarm. Upon arrival, crews discovered a grease fire in one of the apartments had been extinguished by the residential sprinkler system. Upon speaking with the resident, he stated a pan of oil had been on the stove and started to smoke at which time he placed it in the sink. The resident said he then turned around to see flames on the kitchen cabinets. This activated the apartment's sprinkler system and subsequently extinguished the fire. Thanks to the working sprinkler system, the damage was minimal compared to what it could have been without a sprinkler system and there was no damage to any adjoining units.
Annually there is over 7.5 billion dollars lost due to fire damage and 3000 fire deaths. With the combination of smoke detectors and fire sprinkler systems, this is reduced by 82%. |
