Police and Fire Commissioner
Isaac Mercer has served as Commissioner on the Police and Fire Board since 1990. Commissioner Mercer moved to Dixon in 1946 and started working at the steel mill in Sterling. He retired from the steel mill in 1982.
Commissioner Mercer served two years in the Korean War and was active for six years in the Army Reserve. He received an honorable discharge from the military in 1969. He and his wife Earline have been married for 54 years and now have six children with 9 grandchildren.
He was a cofounder of the youth baseball league and also coached for 43 years. Commissioner Mercer is an active volunteer in the following organizations; Meals on Wheels, Hospice, and a Charter Member on Habitat for Humanity. He has been an active member with the Second Baptist Church for 48 years and has served as an usher, trustee, Sunday school teacher, and treasurer. Commissioner Mercer worked as bailiff in the Lee County Court House. He has been a Reserve Deputy with the Lee County Sheriff's Department for the past 23 years.
