Tactical Response Team

dix-trt-group.jpgBeyond the scope of standard equipment such as patrol cars, bicycle patrols, and canine teams, our agency also maintains a Tactical Response Team (TRT).

Began in 1997
In late 1997 the unit was organized as a direct result of the number and type of search warrants the department was conducting. The Tactical Response Team has trained with the Rockford Police Department S.W.A.T. team and has had specialized training from the Illinois State Police Tactical Response Team.

Some of the fields the team has trained in include:

  • Special Weapons
  • Dynamic Entry
  • Covert Searches
  • Hostage Rescue
  • Tactical Movement
  • Emergency First Aid
  • Downed Officer Retrieval
  • Close Quarter Battle Techniques.
dix-trt-3guys.jpgTRT is made up of 9 Dixon Police Officers and can be activated to respond within a short period of time to any type of critical incident.

The Dixon Police Department Tactical Response Team along with the Lee County Sheriff's Tactical Response Team recently particpated in a 3 day training in Dixon. The instructors who are part of the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA), came from Indiana to put on the training for the officers. The focus of the training was tactical hostage rescue and advanced SWAT tactics.
