Rock River, the heart of the City of Dixon, sets the stage for the Reagan Transit Corridor Project, an initiative to develop a multi-use bridge across the river on abandoned railroad tracks, construct 2.75 miles of multi-use paths and re-construct and widen east River Street.
Funding for this project is being sought through the TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery) grant program of the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The $12.0 million dollar project represents a commitment to continue efforts to strengthen the economic attractiveness of the river front and also spur commercial development along River Street.
It is estimated that 140 or more short-term jobs will be created by this project, with 578 long-term jobs being created through the development of commercial businesses.
The Reagan Transit Corridor Project is a collaborative effort between the City of Dixon, Lee County, businesses, organizations and the public and private sector.
Businesses and organizations, as well as residents of the City of Dixon are encouraged to lend their support to this project through the sharing of a letter of support.
